"Hey Bro! Can you feel the wind? It's just right for kite flying!"
"Hmm... I supposed so. There's nothing to lose."
It was the start of the June holidays and my brther and I had nothing to play or to do. It was just a coincidence that my father had bought two brand new kites for us, saying it would be better to play outdoors than in indoors.
While calling our parents to inform them that we were going out, we took our kites from the storeroom. Both of our parents agreed as they thought it was a good idea to interact with nature. Soon, we set off to the park for out kite-flying adventure.
While travelling to the park, we chit-chatted and challenged ourselves to fly our kites the highest. When we reached the park, we saw our friends, Jack, Burney and Goofy flying their kites. They had cool designs like phoenix or other cool animals. We hung our heads low in disgrace. We had just but a simple, plain diamond kite for me, and a dull butterfly kite for my brother. Not wanting any attention, we sped past them.
Finding a spot where the trio was not seen, we started running, trying to get our kites up. It rose to a certain height but we were not satisfied so we ran, hoping that the wind would pick them up to greater heights.
To our delight, our kites did take flight and soar magnificently in the sky. Our spirits soared with them. Unfortunately, our majestic flight did not last.
"Snap!" our lines broke off. We looked behind and stared sadly. Our kites were stuck on a tree. A middle-aged man cycled past and saw what was happening. He dismounted from his bike and offered us help. We felt our cheeks burning and accepted his help.
We watched with anxious eyes as he climbed up the tree for us. He slipped time and time again but he kept on trying till he managed to retrieve both kites.
We were so touched by his actions and after asking his name, we poured our profuse gratitude on Jerald. He smiled, dusted grass off his knees and cycled away.
Since our kites were torn beyond repair, we went home feeling disappointed and sad. We were happy though as we had made a new friend.
