Challenging Sums 6 July 2012

1. There were 920 spectators in the sports hall watching a badminton match. After 2/5 of the children and 2/7 of the adults left the hall, the number of children and the number of adults remaining in the hall were the same.
 (a) How many children remained in the sports hall?
 (b) How many adults were there in the sports hall at first?

2. Dona had $180 more than Wei Kang. Dona spent 1/2 her money and Wei Kang spent 1/5 of his money. In the end, Dona and Wei Kang had the same amount of money left. Find the amount of money Wei Kang had at first.

3. There is an equal number of boys in Class A and Class B. There are 5 fewer children in Class B than in Class A. There are 9 girls in Class B and 2/5 of the children in Class A are girls. What is the ratio of the number of children in Class A to the number of children in Class B? Express your answer in the simplest form.
