Metaphors LS 4.2

1.     Stuck in traffic
The vehicles crawled at a snail’s pace. Impatient motorists honked incessantly while motorcyclists weaved in and out dangerously.

2.     Caught in a crowded MRT
The home-bound MRT was packed like sardines. I craned my neck and was relieved to see a vacant seat. How lucky I was!

These are two very simple examples of using metaphors. I am giving away grand prizes to pupils who can best describe the given situations with metaphors.

  1. Everyone was rushing to the exit of the MRT, charging like bulls. I pitied the train, the elderly and the disabled. I thought the train would cry if it could.

The train sighed as a truckload of passengers charged into the train as if they were running for the Olympics. As I squeezed into the crowd of raging bulls, I felt everyone was squeezing the air out of me.

  3. The MRT was so crowded that I had to wriggle through to the exit. Everyone was charging towards the empty seats like bulls towards a red cape. People were quarreling over the seats and it sounded like a market. The elderly, the disabled and the pregnant were in the most awkward position.
