Student C's Experiment (Index number 18 to 25 to comment)

Aim:
To find out if plants need water for photosynthesis.

Hypothesis:
Plants need water for photosynthesis.

Materials needed:
1.   2 diagrams, A and B.
2.   Dark cupboard
3.   Iodine solution
4.   Water

Procedure:
1.   Put both set-ups into the dark cupboard to destarch it for 12 to 24 hours.
2.   Take it out.
3.   Water set-up A and do not water set-up B.
4.   Do that for about one week.
5.   Pluck out a leaf from each plant.
6.   Put iodine solution on each leaf.

  1. I think he or she needs to add more materials.

For the steps,he or she missed some steps and had --some mistakes like [it].what does [it] refer to?
--put both set-ups at the window or put it somewhere where it has light.
--boil the leaf in the boiling water for 30 seconds.
He or she has to improve on the:hypothesis, procedure and the materials needed.
    thank you!!

  2. There are 3 missing steps about boiling to kill the leaves ,removing the chlorophyll with alcholol
and softening the leaves before testing for starch.

The materials needed is to little to conduct the expriment.

His duration for step 4 is too long as the plant in set up B will die.
I think he or she will had to improve more

  3. His or her plant's duration might be too long.
When He or she checkes his or her plant,it will die or wliter.
so he or she might want to check in 2-4 days.

  4. Student's C explanation is not clear. He did not include where he puts the plant after he took out both of the plants. The second mistake is that he did not boil both the leaves from both of the plants and put both of them into alcohol. It also never said that he put both the leaves on a white tile.He also did not include the materials such as the boiler, the white tile and a beaker of alcohol. And I forgot to say that before the experiment starts,he did not say that he distarch the plant. He also did not include that to see the changes. That is all I know. Its me,

  5. 1.The aim and the hypothesis is fine.
    2.The materials are not enough.
    3.There are some missing procedures
    4.The complete materials are:
    1)water
    2)light
    3)carbon dioxide
    4)boiling water
    5)2 tripod stands
    6)2 beakers
    7)2 gas burners
    8)forceps
    9)iodine solution
    10)droppers
    11)2 white tiles
    12)2 identical potted plants
    13)dark cupboard
    14)warm alcohol
    5.The complete procedures are:
1)Put both plants from set up A and set up
B in a dark cupboard for 24-48 hours
2)Take both plants out and put them under the
    sunlight.
3)Water plant from set up A everyday with the
same amount but dont plant plant from set up
    B for 2-3 days.
4.After 2-3 days pluck out a leaf from each set
    up.
5.Boil the leaves in the boiling water for 30
    seconds.
6.Take the leaves out with a forcep.
7.Put both leaves in the warm alcohol.
8.Take the leaves out and put them on the white
    tiles.
9.Put iodine solution on both leaves.
    10)See the observation.

  6. Student C's science concept was not there as he or she needed more materials. The hypothesis and aim are correct so very good. However,to test whether plants need water for photosynthesis, there is no need for a dark cupboard. He or she needs to improve on his or her experiment. What does the [it] refer to? Student C should write both of the plants. But good job Student C's!!

  7. You should add "boil the leaves for 5 minutes" and "put the leaves in warm alcohol to remove the chlorophyll and soften the leaves" to the procedures. You should also reduce the number of days for watering set-up A and explain more clearly about step 2.You should also add "warm alcohol" and "gas burner"

  8. What is digram A and B plants .I think the student should say is 2 plant digram name A and B.There is also one more mistake is put both set-up into the dark cupboard to destarch it for 12 to 24 hours I think the student should say
;put the set-up in the dark cupbourd for 3 days
do it for one week is to long. the student has miss some step like boil it put in warm alcohol and boil it back to soften it then put the iodine solution

  9. Student C's hypothesis is correct but need to add more materials and he or she has missed out a few steps such as boiling the leaves, killing the leaves and soften the leaves with warm alcohol till it loses it's colour. Step 4 of the procedure should be done within a day. Doing it for one week is too long because the plant will die.
