"As the saying goes "Don't judge a book by its cover'', I had an incident that I thought would remember me for life. I was a biased person and I would always think that people with an evil look bear ill intentions. That was where I was wrong. I still have a vivid memory of what happened that day, that night rather.
It was dark and stormy. Street lights flickered on and off . I was taking out garbage of my newly open restaurant which was about to close. I grabbed the garbage bag and exited through the backdoor to the alley.
Just as I was about to open the garbage bin, I heard footsteps. At first, I thought it was my employee closing the restaurant for the day but it got louder. I swung around and gasped in shock. A black figure was slowly making his way to me. He was carrying a bulky suitcase and his tie was swaying with the wind. Sweat trickled down my forehead as he walked closer. I could make out a smirk as he continued to step forward.
Trying to get away, I moved back, knocking over some garbage bins. I dropped the garbage bag and ran like there was no tomorrow. When I thought I had lost him, I turned around, only to be shocked as I realised he was closer to me than before. I retreated and I was engulfed in fear when my back hit the wall. I was cornered! I stood there hoping against hope for the best to happen.
Instead of hurting me, he stepped forward and said, "Why are you running away? I was just trying to return your wallet. While you were cleaning up, you accidentally dropped you wallet! Take it!" As he said that, he took out my wallet from his bag.
"Oh! Sorry! I always thought that people with an evil look have ill intentions. Sorry that I misunderstood you. Now, you have taught me a brilliant lesson. Thanks!" I exclaimed, taking back my wallet.
From then on, I learnt not to "judge a book by its cover" again and I would not be so biased any more.
