Cousin Leo by Natalie Tan

On the night of 20th August 2010, I was working overtime in the Carl's Junior fast food restaurant. After everyone left the restaurant, I cleaned up the restaurant and started to lock up.

When I was about to leave, I saw a suspicious man outside the front door of the restaurant and he had an evil grin on his face. Not daring to exit by the front door as he might have evil intentions, I ran towards the kitchen and took the exit through the back door.

But the man knew I had exited through the back door and followed me. I turned behind and saw his evil grin growing wider and wider. I then broke into a run because he gave me the creeps.

"Why is that guy following me?What is he? A stalker, pervert or a murderer?" I asked myself my heart pounding against my ribcage.

I ran and ran and came to the dead end of the deserted alley. There was no ladder to climb. Nothing! And I stood there facing the man.

He touched me on the shoulder and I screamed.

"What's wrong cousin?" he asked.

"Cousin?" I repeated in shock.

"Yeah Natalie! Don't you remember me? I am Leo Chan, your cousin!" he exclaimed, looking sore for being forgotten.

At the back of my head the "name-searcher" is still finding the name Leo. Then I finally recalled that Leo was my cousin who had travelled to London to study in their Oxford University.

"Oh Leo, you are back!!" I exclaimed happily.

"Yeah I came back yesterday and Aunt told me you work here so I came here to pick you up and surprise you but who knows you had clearly forgotten me!" Leo said, looking rather disappointed.

"I am sorry. But if you are here to surprise me, why the evil grin on your face?" I demanded.

"Hey? Have you forgotten? I have some muscular problems with my face right?" Leo said in anger because it seemed to him I had totally forgotten him.

Leo drove me home and we caught up with each other on the way. How could I have mistaken my cousin as a crook!
