A forest fire in Sumatra was brought to Singapore's northern area, which is most affected by the haze, by the south-west winds. The PSI reading was 53 at 4pm 28 August. The National Environment Agency did not answer why only the northern part of Singapore was affected.
If the air-quality measurement is from zero to 50, it is good but if it is above 100 it is considered unhealthy. Besides the PSI, there is another air-quality scale called PM2.5 that measures fine pollutants.
I learnt that PSI measures sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide and particulate matter.
